this is for all my parasite girlies out there. you already know who this is. for people not deeply involved in gross arthropod fandom, there’s a parasitic isopod who will swim into a fish’s mouth and sever the blood supply to the tongue so that it falls off and then will connect themselves to the attaching muscle and functionally become the fish’s new tongue living on its body fluids and only kind of hurting the fish if there are too many guys in there at once. anyway i thought that’d make a fun mermaid.
