Conjuring the Great Worm print
Conjuring the Great Worm print
Out in the wild mountains, the wizard gathered his courage for his greatest spell yet.

First in my Beanstiary series, a project of painting a fantasy world populated by Ty Beanie Babies™️. This project came about somewhat on accident; I knew I wanted to create a series of fantasy paintings for my portfolio, and to push my technical skills, particularly with color, light, and environment. I began working on this wizard, unsure of what he would be conjuring. I had recently purchased a few Beanie Babies off Facebook marketplace, intending on using them as studio decor, and landed on Inch the Worm. I immediately fell in love with the idea of a fantasy world full of variously sized magical Beanie Babies, and realized the funny and whimsical nature of the subject allowed me to push my technique without fear of Ruining Something Very Serious. The original piece was made by rendering a full-value under-drawing in pencil, and then layering on thin washes of acrylics.
